Subscription Pricing

Subscription pricing means a fan pays on a schedule — weekly, monthly, or yearly — until they cancel. It is how you sell ongoing access, retainers, or “pay every month” offers on products and courses.

Creator plan and above

On the Free Flo plan, product pricing is one-time only. Subscriptions (and payment plans) unlock on Creator, Pro, and Studio. See Pricing overview → Flo plan limits.

Recurring prices need Flo Payments

Before you can save a subscription price, your Flo Payments earnings account must be Active. Finish setup under Settings → Flo Payments. Paid renewals cannot run until that is done.

Subscriptions are not the same as Memberships — memberships use their own tier editor under Dashboard → Memberships. This guide is for the shared Pricing editor on products and courses.

When to use a subscription

Good fitExamples
Ongoing access you deliver over timeMonthly template drops, coaching retainer
Predictable recurring revenue$29/month community add-on sold as a product
Optional trial before the first charge7-day trial, then monthly billing
Same product with a one-time “lifetime” option$199 once or $19/month — fan picks at checkout
Use something elseWhen
One-timeSingle payment, no renewals
Payment planFixed number of payments (e.g. 3× $99), then billing stops automatically
MembershipsTiered hub / portal access with its own pricing UI
BookingsPer-session offers in Bookings, not product pricing

Set up a subscription price

  1. Open the product or course

Dashboard → Products → new or existing product, or Dashboard → Courses → course → Pricing tab. The editor works the same on both.

  2. Choose Subscription

In Pricing, open a price card (or Add price option). Under Pricing type, select SubscriptionRecurring billing.

  3. Set You receive or Buyer pays

    • You receive — enter what you want in your balance each billing period after fees. Flo grosses up checkout so successful renewals hit that target.
    • Buyer pays — enter the sticker price fans see every period (e.g. $19 / month).

The preview shows per-period totals, for example Buyers will pay … / month and You receive $X.XX guaranteed on You receive. See You receive vs Buyer pays.

  4. Pick a billing interval

Billing interval pills: Weekly, Monthly, or Yearly. Each successful period charges once at that cadence until cancelled.

  5. Optional trial

Trial period (days) — enter a number (e.g. 7) or leave blank for no trial. With a trial, the fan’s card is saved at signup; the first paid charge runs after the trial ends (see Trials below).

  6. Label, description, delivery

Label — name on the price toggle (e.g. Monthly, Annual).
Description — short line under the price (e.g. Cancel anytime).
Set Digital download or Manual delivery on the product the same as for one-time sales.

  7. Save and publish

Save the product or course. Add a Sell a Product (or course checkout) block, select it, Update live.

You can add up to three price options per product or course (e.g. $9/week, $29/month, $199/year). Fans choose one at checkout.

Billing intervals

In the editorWhat fans see at checkout
WeeklyPrice shown with / week
Monthly/ month
Yearly/ year

Flo bills on the interval you saved. There is no “every 2 months” option in the editor today — only these three cadences.

You receive vs Buyer pays (each renewal)

Recurring prices use the same You receive / Buyer pays pills as one-time sales.

ModeYou setEach successful period
You receiveTarget take-home per periodFan pays the grossed-up total you saved; your guaranteed net applies on each successful charge
Buyer paysSticker price per periodFan pays exactly that; fees come out of your payout

Guaranteed net on renewals

Guaranteed net applies to successful charges at the price you saved, using your current Flo plan and currency rules. It does not override refunds, chargebacks, failed payments, or payout timing in Wallet. If you change your Flo plan, new prices you save use the new fee rate; existing subscribers keep their current billing until you change those price rows and only new buyers pick up the new setup (see Changing prices).

$0 subscription prices are allowed (free tier at checkout). Paid amounts should meet the editor hint: Minimum $0.50 for paid prices (50¢ USD by default for USD payouts).

Trials

SettingBehavior
Leave blankNo trial — first charge runs on the normal billing schedule when they subscribe
e.g. 7 daysTrial length in days; 0 is treated as no trial

What fans experience:

  1. They complete subscription checkout (email + card on Featured / Minimal blocks, or the hosted checkout on Card style).
  2. While status is Trial, they are not charged for the paid amount yet.
  3. They receive a confirmation email such as Your free trial of [product name] has startedYou won't be charged until your trial ends.
  4. After the trial, billing continues on the interval you set (Weekly / Monthly / Yearly).

In My Subscriptions on your fan portal (/{your-username}/portal/subscriptions), a trialing subscription shows a Trial status and when the trial ends.

What happens at checkout

  1. Fan opens your Sell a Product block (or course checkout) and picks a subscription option if you offer more than one price.
  2. Checkout copy explains that subscriptions renew until cancelled and that they will review billing details before confirming.
  3. Featured and Minimal blocks:
    • Fan enters email, then completes card setup in the Flo Pay flow (Subscribe or Subscribe $X.XX / month style button).
  4. Card-style blocks send them to a secure hosted checkout page to finish (email collected there).
  5. On success they see a confirmation such as You're subscribed! and get a subscription started email.

Fans do not need a Flo account to subscribe. They need a valid card for paid plans (or $0 for a free subscription tier).

Coupons

Discount codes do not apply to subscription checkout on products. Coupons in the product Discounts section only work for one-time purchases. See Pricing overview → Coupons.

Mixed pricing on one product

You can sell $49 one-time and $19/month subscription on the same product. Checkout shows toggles; the fan picks one option before paying.

Changing prices when people are already subscribed

If a price row already has subscribers, a yellow banner appears in the editor. It shows how many active subscribers you have and warns:

Changing the amount, interval, or type will create a new billing price. Existing subscribers stay on their current price — only new buyers will see the updated one.

ChangeEffect
Amount, billing interval, pricing type, or trialNew billing price for new buyers only
Label or description onlyUpdates display; does not move existing subscribers to a new amount

This matches what you see on the product card if checkout is not ready: Subscription price not synced — save again after Flo Payments is Active, or wait a moment and retry checkout.
