Broadcasts

Broadcasts Overview

Broadcasts are email campaigns you write in Flo and send from Dashboard → Broadcasts. They reach people who agreed to hear from you — usually your subscribed list from the Newsletter block — or, optionally, active members of a membership you run.

Creator plan required

Broadcasts are a Creator feature and above. Free accounts see an upgrade prompt instead of the broadcasts screen.

What broadcasts are (and are not)

BroadcastsNot broadcasts
Newsletters and promotions you compose and sendNewsletter signup confirmation emails (automatic)
Updates to subscribed fans or members you chooseReceipts, password resets, and other one-off system emails
Shown on Dashboard → Broadcasts with opens, clicks, and reportsMembership welcome or billing emails configured elsewhere

If you are building your list first, start with Subscribers overview and Email capture. This guide assumes you are ready to send.

Fan Hub vs subscribers

Fan Hub is for buyers, bookers, and membership fans. Subscribers are your marketing email list. Someone can be one, both, or neither. Most broadcasts go to subscribers; see Members-only sends below.

Who can receive a broadcast

In the composer you pick an Audience:

AudienceWho receives itRequirements
All subscribersEveryone on your list with status subscribed (confirmed double opt-in)Does not include pending (unconfirmed) or unsubscribed
Members onlyActive fans of a membership you selectYou need at least one membership; they do not have to be on your subscriber list

The composer shows a live count (for example 1,240 subscribers or 86 members) before you send.

How the monthly cap works (Creator)

Flo counts broadcasts that have finished sending with status Sent in the current calendar month (UTC). Drafts and scheduled campaigns do not count until they actually send.

When you hit 5 sent broadcasts in a month, the next send is blocked until the month resets or you upgrade to Pro or Studio.

Full tables (list size, AI, speed limits, scheduled sends): Broadcast limits.

Before your first send

Complete these once; Flo reminds you on the list and in the composer if something is missing.

  1. Upgrade to Creator or above

Free cannot open the broadcasts workflow.

  2. Grow a subscribed audience

Fans must confirm via your Newsletter block — Email capture. Pending signups are not mailed.

  3. Add your physical mailing address

Settings → ProfilePhysical address. Every commercial email footer must include a real postal address (CAN-SPAM). Without it, New broadcast and Send are blocked.

  4. Set how mail comes from you

Settings → Email sendingFrom name, From email on your Flo subdomain (yourname.myflo.link) or a verified custom domain, and Reply-to. See Email domain.

  5. Accept the email policy (first time)

The first time you send, Flo shows Email Sending Agreement. Check the box and Agree and Continue. You must confirm opt-in-only lists, honest subjects, and that Flo may pause sending for deliverability issues.

Physical address required

If the address is missing, you see a yellow banner on Broadcasts and in compose: Broadcasts must include a physical mailing address in the footer. Use Open Settings to go to Settings → Profile.

Campaign statuses

StatusWhat it meansWhat you can do
DraftSaved, not scheduled or sentEdit, send, schedule, delete, duplicate
ScheduledSet to send at a future date and timeEdit, reschedule, delete, duplicate
SendingFlo is delivering in batches (large lists take time)Wait; open View report for live progress
SentDelivery finishedView report only; duplicate to copy content
FailedSomething stopped the send (limits, suspension, empty audience, etc.)Read the error, fix, edit, and try again

Large lists do not all leave in one second — Flo sends in waves so deliverability stays healthy. Status may sit on Sending for a while; that is normal.

Sending flow (short)

Full editor detail lives in Compose a broadcast.

  1. New broadcast

Dashboard → Broadcasts → New broadcast (or Write first broadcast).

  2. Audience, subject, body

Pick All subscribers or Members only, write subject and content, optional preview text. Drafts autosave (you see Saved / Saving… in the header).

  3. Preview

Check mobile layout and footer — your physical address should appear.

  4. Send now or schedule

Send opens a confirmation: Send this broadcast? with recipient count. Schedule picks date and time in the preview panel — Scheduling broadcasts.

  5. Report

After send, View report shows recipients, delivered, opens, clicks, and unsubscribes from that campaign.

Deliverability and reputation

Flo monitors bounces, spam complaints, and send volume so one bad list does not hurt everyone.

Email branding by plan

Set colors and logo under Settings → Email sending (and related branding settings).
